Nami-hiiri (FIN) is hosting her traditional cake competition with the theme of: the cake picture that inspires you to create. The idea is that you search for a picture that inspires you to make an exact replica or a close enough creation of the cake in the picture. I thought this was a cool idea and started searching for a photo that would inspire me. Couldn't find one that I could realistically create for the life of me. Then after searching high and low for a suitable picture on google I found this.
This was actually submitted for a chocolate themed article for a newspaper. I have absolutely no idea what has gone in to this but here's what I came up with.
As you can see I have taken somewhat of an artistic license here. I started with a chocolate cake and filled it with a chocolate mousse. The mousse was made from a box because I knew that the chocolate work would take most of my time. I covered the top with a simple milk chocolate ganache. I have made all of the chocolate pieces on this cake myself. I used dark and white chocolate on the decorations on the top and trying to get them to curve in a nice way was a pain in the... But I think I did a pretty good job for a first timer. The grid along the sides is made from milk chocolate.
Now with only minutes to spare I will submit my entry and then try to figure out what to do with the cake.
